his is a representative verse from the song "Take a Stand," by Blind Willie Johnson, which is beautiful in its simplicity and relies heavily on notes from the E6 arpeggio that we talked about. Note the first 2 beats of bars 2 and 4, which use E6 arp notes exclusively. In the actual song, these little bass licks vary melodically from verse to verse, but almost always stick with the notes from this arpeggio. Note also the nice little bass lick in bar 7, which utilizes the same notes with a little F# thrown in (from your major scale) for good measure. Also note the use of the walk up to A in the 3rd and 4th beats of the 2nd bar and to B in the end of the 5th bar, as we saw in the 4th and 8th bars of the example on the prior page.
