Akai Announces New OS Update for DPS24

Continuing to develop the DPS24 Digital Personal Studio, with planned upgrades such as the V1.60 upgrade scheduled for late January 2004, This update will allow the DPS24 to import and export .WAV and AIFF files and install software upgrades by communicating directly with your PC via USB. With ak.SysServer it's possible to map separate folders on the computer for importing and exporting, allowing quick and easy file sharing between the DPS24 and other applications running on your PC.

Additional improvements to the import/export process include automatic re-sampling of imported .WAV and AIFF files to the current Projects sample rate, and a Data Range selection that allows users to import files based on the date created, including Today, Past Week, Past 2 Weeks, Past Month, Past 6 Months, Past Year and ALL.

The new operating system adds support for 88.2 kHz sample rates, an Audio Recovery option to re-import unreferenced audio from a master Project drive, and include improvements to ak.Sys TrackView, such as improved scrolling, and USB receive and transmit progress indicators. Enhancements to the editing process are also planned for the V1.60 operating system upgrade. Improvements include Insert Silence, Move to Original, Move Tracks, and Nudge functions that greatly increase the editing flexibility of the DPS24. DPS functions will also be improved to allow processing of more than two tracks simultaneously.

Noise in the studio is an important issue in today's studios, especially with more recordings going to hard disk and computers. The DPS24 addresses this important issue via the optional IB24SCSI, which allows direct recording and playback using external 68-pin SCSI drives. External drives can be removed from the recording environment allowing noise levels in the studio to be reduced.

Improvements to Virtual Track management have also been introduced in V1.60. V.Track assignments are faster and easier with auto-incrementing to the next available V.Track after each assignment is made. Other new options include a "New Take" feature and an "ERASE V.Track" utility
