Aphex Systems Unveils New A/D Converter

Aphex Systems announced the release of the newest member of their Solution Delivery Series, the Aphex Model 212 A/D Converter.

The Aphex 212 features the patented Aphex Drift Stabilized Analog to Digital Converter that was designed specifically to address and overcome the DC drift inherent in all A/D converters. Rather than utilizing the conventional approach of inserting a high pass filter in the digital domain after conversion--which while eliminating the DC it reduces the maximum input signal level--Aphex's patented circuit technology removes the DC before conversion, providing the highest possible resolution.

The 212 offers multiple stereo outputs (AES, S/PDIF and optical) and two separate AES outputs that are mono (channels 1 and 1; channels 2 and 2) allowing the pristine signal to be easily split without adding additional devices to the audio chain. For unbalanced 75ohm applications, optional BNC outputs can be substituted for the AES XLR outputs. "An important design criteria of the 212 was to make a superior quality converter that was affordable, without sacrificing features," explains Marvin Caesar, Aphex President. "In many applications, audio professionals are forced to do their A/D--D/A conversion with lower quality converters or on sound cards installed into computers. Since a computer is an extremely hostile environment for analog audio with RF interference compounded with less than perfect power supplies, it is always preferable to convert outside of that environment. The 212 makes the interface between the analog and digital domains transparent, simple and affordable."

The Aphex 212 will be available in October 2002 at a suggested retail price of $995.00.
