Digitech HistoryDigiTech is an audio company that specialises in effects pedals and consoles for guitars and basses. One success under DigiTech's belt is the Whammy pedal, a pitchshifting pedal with a variety of modes; octave down, octave up, and various harmonizing abilities. The original Whammy pedal was popularized by Tom Morello, Jonny Greenwood, Jack White, and Steve Vai. Updates of the original Whammy pedal are generally considered inferior, but are still found on many pedalboards. The Fourth edition of the Whammy pedal is more faithful to the original design, but with improved tracking. Interestingly, many guitarists have said that they prefer the slower tracking of the original Whammy. Some of the later Multi-effect boxes from DigiTech like the GNX4 and GNX3000 have an innovative concept called WARP(c). This patented feature allows an end user to create totally new Amplifier and Cabinet models by interpolating between any two existing models and immediately hearing the newly created model. The current industry practice for creating new tones (called "patches") is limited to only allowing users to change the settings of each effect in the Multi-effect box. However the total number of Amplifiers, Cabinet and Effects modelled in a particular multi-effect box remain fixed, limiting the tonal variations possible. WARP gives an end user the ability to easily create totally new Amplifier and Cabinet models, thereby allowing an infinite repertoire of user created tones. |
