Drawmer Introduces Tube Station 2Jul 30, 2002 Click image for closeup | Modeled after the legendary 1960 and 1969 tube compressors, Drawmer's newly designed Tube Station 2 digital output compressor/limiter offers an affordable solution to musicians and home recordists seeking world-class Drawmer analog tube compression for use in a digital audio system. The Tube Station 2 brings warmth and vitality to audio via a variable tube drive circuit, and delivers it in digital form via a DC1 24/96-output module. Recognizing the market is flooded with pedestrian quality digital converters and low performance compressors, The engineering behind the new Drawmer TS2 compressor draws on Ivor Drawmer's unique history as both analog and digital audio designer. The goal was to offer a unique compressor solution with an optional 24/96 converter optimized for use with this stereo compressor offering superior resolution and the widest possible dynamic range. With the TS2, users can dial in the desired amount of Drawmer tube warmth via a variable "Tube Drive" control and A/B the results by means of separate switch located on the front panel. The TS2's soft-knee compressor performs exceptionally well in both mixing and tracking applications, with a stereo (link) mode for warming up digital mixdowns, and in dual-mono mode for tracking. An easy to use "compress" control makes best use of threshold and ratio settings to provide a musical result superior to that of a typical VCA compressor. Attack and release controls are independent, offering use to a wide range of sources. The TS2 also includes a fixed threshold (+16) limiter to prevent overload of the digital output and provide maximum output without distortion. The TS2 is available both as a digital compressor/limiter (TS2/DC1) or as an analog compressor/limiter (TS2). The Drawmer DC1 24/96 digital output module adds $250 to the $750 MSRP of the analog TS2. The TS2 can be ordered with a DC1 factory installed or as a separate output module to be installed in a TS2 analog at a later date. The TS2's optional 24-bit digital output module offers S/PDIF or AES/EBU outputs at 44.1 to 96k and provides word clock input with high sample rate sensing.
