E-MU Systems has announced the new PX-7 Command Station, a drum machine that features a powerful sequencer and 128-voice synthesizer. The PX-7 features a multitrack, pattern-based sequencer with real-time, grid and step recording capabilities, 13 velocity sensitive pads, 32 MB of brand-new acoustic and electric drum and percussion sounds, three additional ROM expansion slots, a digital output, new Version 2.0 software, and a host of performance knobs, buttons and switches. The PX-7 will be available this month and has a U.S. retail price of $995.

Brand-new Drum Soundset

E-MU sound engineers spent six months sampling acoustic drum kits in studios around the U.S. to build a diverse collection of drum sounds for the new PX-7. Electronic drum samples and additional percussion instruments were then added to round out the soundset, offering a users a palette of drum sounds. These samples were then optimized for the PX-7's advanced synthesis architecture, with every one of the 16 control knobs assigned to real-time parameters like envelope ADSR's, filter cutoffs, amplitude, etc. In addition to the 512 factory presets and 512 user presets, the PX-7 also ships with over 100 groove sequences that can be performed and tweaked right out of the box, along with programmable arpeggiators.

Performance Tool

Performing, sequencing and editing are central to the PX-7, providing numerous functions that allow advanced interaction with sequences and sounds. The PX-7 has been designed to be a full-blown MIDI controller, and can be used to control other MIDI gear in addition to its internal sounds. For example, each controller knob can be assigned to its own MIDI channel and controller number, allowing you to customize the way you interact with all of your gear, and all of the PX--7's controller setups can be stored into multiple multi-setups.

The PX-7 also has 13 velocity sensitive pads, a touch strip, 16 programmable and quick-edit knobs, direct jump keys, sequencer transport, two displays and trigger keys.
