Furman Previews New Products and Technologies on Display at the 2008 NAMM Show

Jan 16, 2008

Furman is proud to announce the new products and technologies it will showcase at the 2008 Winter NAMM show.

New Merit x Series
The 2008 NAMM Show will mark the launch of Furman's new Merit x Series, an upgrade to Furman's existing Merit line, which provides convenient, rack-mountable power conditioning solutions to the value-conscious consumer. The M-8x provides eight filtered and protected rear-panel outlets with a front-panel convenience outlet, as well as a "Protection OK" indicator light. The M-8Lx adds pull-out light tubes (with dimmer knob) for discreet rack illumination, while the M-8Dx provides light tubes as well as a laboratory-grade front-panel digital voltmeter to monitor incoming voltage.

Upgrades of the new Merit x Series include:
  • Better protection with a higher joule rating
  • Increased AC noise filtration for a lower noise floor
  • A more robust chassis, with wall-wart outlet spacing on the rear panel to accommodate bulky power transformers

Merit Export x Series
Furman is proud to introduce the Merit Export x Series at the 2008 NAMM Show. For the first time, Furman's Merit Series power conditioners will be available to customers in 230-V countries. The M-10x E provides 10 filtered and protected rear-panel outlets, a front-panel convenience outlet, and a "Protection OK" indicator light. The M-10Lx E adds pull-out light tubes with a dimmer knob. The Furman Export models operate at a 10-A capacity and include a 1.5-meter removable IEC C-13 female-to-Schuko-male power cord.

Furman Hands-on Technology Demos:

At its booth, Furman will offer several hands-on product demonstrations that illustrate the benefits of Furman's power management and headphone monitoring solutions and how they may be used in a variety of applications.

AC Noise Filtering: LiFT – Linear Filtering Technology
This demonstration provides a real-time noise analysis comparing the noise filtering circuitry found in typical AC filters/conditioners with the advanced filtering provided by Furman's LiFT circuitry. Furman's LiFT provides wide-bandwidth AC filtering with a linear attenuation curve to provide a lower noise floor through audio and video frequencies.

Surge Protection: EVS – Extreme Voltage Shutdown
Furman's virtually nonsacrificial SMP surge protection, available in all Series II and Power Factor models, protects equipment from dangerous prolonged overvoltage conditions by continuously monitoring incoming voltage and shutting off power when a dangerous overvoltage (greater than 137 VAC) is detected. Unlike most surge suppression devices that "take the hit" and sacrifice themselves in such situations, Furman's SMP circuit with EVS protects itself as well as connected equipment until the condition is corrected, avoiding costly downtime, repairs, and service calls. At Furman's SMP demonstration, attendees will witness a Series II unit subjected to a prolonged overvoltage of over 200 V without sustaining any damage.

Audio Hum Removal Demonstration
At Furman's audio hum removal demonstration, attendees can hear firsthand the benefits of using the IT-20 II balanced isolation transformer to remove ground hum and interference. Designed for the most critical ultra-low-noise applications, the IT-20 II provides 20 amps of pure, isolated, and balanced power. The center-tapped isolation transformer provides complete and total isolation from the power grid, resulting in systems free of the hum and buzz caused by AC ground loops.

Headphone Monitoring System Demonstration
The HDS-16/HRM-16 headphone/monitor audio distribution system enables musicians on stage or in a studio to use a custom headphone or monitor mix, and Furman will be featuring this system at its headphone monitoring demonstration.

The double-rack-space HDS-16 provides full patching functions on its front panel via 1/4-inch and TT input jacks, and it is intended to be installed at the mixing console location. The HDS-16 provides power and signal conditioning to drive the HRM-16 remote mixers. In addition, it includes two 1/4-inch jacks for the two-way talkback functions and a "solo remote" switch with an indicator that allows muting of all but one stereo feed at all HRM-16 systems. This comes in handy for isolating tracks for critical listening without requiring each HRM-16 user to turn down all but one channel. The "solo" function also includes a 1/4-inch jack so actuation can be done with a footswitch. Additionally, the rear panel includes six Centronics 50-pin connectors to link up to six HRM-16 systems, or more if daisy-chaining is used.

Connecting HDS-16 and HRM-16s is easy, as each mixer is supplied with a 25-foot super-flexible interconnect cable that can easily be extended or routed through walls and daisy-chained to other HRM-16 systems.
