JBL Professional Debuts JRX100 Series at Winter NAMM

Jan 21, 2004

With the cost conscious user in mind, JBL announced the introduction of the JRX100 series for musicians, DJs and other users of live sound reinforcement speakers at the Winter NAMM Show. The JRX100 series offers a complete line of live sound reinforcement speakers at an affordable price.

A new feature of the JRX100 line is the dual-angle pole socket. This feature allows the speaker to be mounted in either a conventional, vertical position, or with a 10 degree down angle. By aiming the speaker down, it is possible to achieve more even audience coverage and reduce the destructive acoustic reflections from walls.

"The advantages of raising the speaker and aiming it down at the audience are well known to tour and install sound professionals," said Gerry Tschetter, Director of Portable PA Marketing. "But the speakers available to portable PA users allow only a vertical orientation. With the dual-angle pole socket, this capability is no longer limited to flown systems."

The dual-angle pole socket is featured on two JRX100 models -- the JRX115 and the JRX112M. The JRX115 is a 15" two-way front-of-house speaker with 1000 watts peak power capacity and 250 watts continuous.

Designed from the ground up as a stage monitor, the JRX112M is a 12" two-way stage monitor in a compact enclosure also featuring the dual-angle pole socket for front-of-house applications.

The dual 15" two-way model, JRX125, fulfills the increasing market demand for dual 15" full-range configurations. Designed as a "quasi three-way" single-box system, the upper woofer covers lows and mids while the bottom woofer uses a lower crossover frequency and covers only lows. This design maintains the midrange coherence and clarity of a single driver system while also providing the additional low frequency performance that is the reason for a dual 15" two-way system to exist.

Completing the JRX100 series are a pair of 18" compact subwoofers, powered and non-powered. The JRX118S non-powered subwoofer is rated at 1400 watts peak power capacity and 350 watts continuous. It includes a newly designed JBL 18" woofer with a cast frame and 3" voice-coil.

If the convenience of a self-powered subwoofer is preferred, JBL offers the JRX118SP, which incorporates a specially designed amplifier with 500 watts peak and 300 watts continuous power output into the same driver as the non-powered version. It offers dual inputs with balanced XLR connectors, a built-in stereo crossover network and peak limiter to protect the amplifier and speaker from clipping.

A sophisticated, advanced network topology design is utilized in JRX100 models to ensure quality performance. To minimize distortion due to coil saturation, heavy gauge wire is used for inductors and SonicGuard high-frequency driver protection guards against damage caused by inadvertent overpowering of the system. All full-range models feature Neutrik Speakon and 1/4" input connectors.

All JRX100 series models are constructed of carpet-covered, 3/4" MDF. Non-resonant, all metal handles are used and an 18 gauge, full metal grille protects the drivers. All JRX100 models have passed the same 100-hour, full rated-power torture test that JBL high-end touring systems must survive.

Installation versions, JRX112Mi and JRX115i, are available. Both are designed for suspension where ground stacking or pole mounting is impractical or undesirable. Three internal metal braces, threaded to receive M10 bolts, have been added. The handles, feet and pole-mount socket have been removed.

JRX100 series speakers will go into production in March of 2004.
