JBL Professional unveiled its flagship LSR6300 Series line of studio monitors at the 115th AES show in New York. The new line incorporates patented transducer technologies and features to minimize detrimental effect on response caused by the acoustic properties of the room. The result is more accurate performance at the mix position in any size control room, according to the company.

The LSR6300 Series includes three new models:

  • LSR6328P bi-amplified reference monitor with 8" woofer and 1" tweeter
  • LSR6332 reference monitor with 12" woofer, 5" midrange, and 1" tweeter
  • LSR6312SP subwoofer.

These models include patented JBL transducer technology to create ultraaccurate response. The LSR6312SP includes sophisticated bass management circuitry and a full feature- set for multi-channel audio production. The current LSR25P, compact bi-amplified reference monitor with 5.25" woofer and 1" tweeter can be used in systems with any of the new models. All four models include mounting points for use with readily available mounting hardware, magnetic shielding for use near video monitors, and are THX approved. The LSR6328P includes handles for ease of transportation and positioning in the room.

JBL includes three technologies to overcome problems caused by the acoustics of the room: Linear Spatial Reference technology, RMC Room Mode Correction, and boundary compensation.

A speaker which measures "flat" onaxis in an anechoic chamber, may not produce flat response at the mix position. JBL's Linear Spatial Reference technology ensures that the mid and high-frequency content at the mix position is smooth and accurate. This is accomplished by engineering into the system a +/- 30 degrees horizontal, and +/- 15 degrees vertical, radiated response, which is also virtually flat. Using LSR technology, the mid and high-frequency response is flatter at the mix position, regardless of working distance.

Low frequency standing waves, caused by the room's geometry, can cause "boominess" at the mix position and contribute to an inaccurate representation of low frequency content. The ability to achieve accurate low frequency response is particularly challenging in smaller home and project studios. The LSR6328P and the LSR6312SP subwoofer incorporate a new JBL RMC Room Mode Correction circuit, which eliminates the effect of low frequency room modes, allowing accurate bass response at the mix position. The RMC Calibration Kit, included with the LSR6312SP Subwoofer, and available as an accessory for use with the LSR6328P, provides everything the user needs to measure the room response, identify the dominant room mode, and calibrate the response of the system. Once calibrated, the RMC system dramatically improves low frequency performance at the mix position in any size room.

Boundary compensation circuitry is included in the LSR6328P and the LSR25P to correct frequency response and overcome spectral shift when the system is mounted on a wall, in a corner or on a workstation surface.
