Ludwig Announces New State-of-the-Art Marching Percussion

Just in time for marching season, Ludwig has introduced its new line of marching percussion. Designed for both lighter weight and improved strength, new USA Free Floater snares and Challenger tenor and bass drums are primed and ready for the most demanding performances.

The patented Ludwig Free Floater snare drum has a new integrated finish on its cross-laminated birch and maple shell that delivers the lighter weight as well as superior pitch and tone. Heat-treated 6mm USA steel key rods provide solid high tension tuning. Other features, such as the magnesium die-cast top and bottom support hoops and aluminum alloy connectors also provide for stronger construction and lighter weight. The new lightweight Ludwig snare carriers feature new J-bars for more stability and smaller belly plates for more comfort and a cleaner look under the uniform.

The all-birch Challenger tenor and bass drum shells also feature the new integrated finish. With new lightweight aluminum alloy rail systems for quad, quint and sextuplet designs, these outfits are over two pounds lighter than previous models. Die-cast zinc lug casings with support plates on the inside of the tenor shell provide for extra strength, as well, making the Ludwig Challenger tenor and bass drums state-of-the-art.

The new Ludwig bass drum rim guard and mallet caddy is a two-in-one solution that connects the spring-loaded adjustable caddy over the shell to the bass drum rim. The side connections offer protection to the rim for on-the-rim playing and the top mallet caddy gives storage and quick-change ability for multiple mallets. This unique design creates a loud resonant tone when struck for superior on-the-rim effects.

Standard finishes include white, black and red cortex, mirror chrome, brushed silver and brushed gold. Optional shadow finishes include ebony, cobalt blue, ivory, scarlet and mahogany. All Ludwig marching drums offer a variety of Remo® heads and carry a three-year warranty.
