At AES, Aphex Systems announced the release of the latest evolution of their highly popular Model 2020 Broadcast Audio Processor, in use daily by post production facilities and radio and television stations around the world. The new Model 2020 MkIII Broadcast Audio Processor is a self-contained dynamics processor for FM, TV, cable, satellite, and webcasting in a single chassis unit. All functions are integrated in one interactive and optimized processing framework. The Aphex 2020 MkIII features a split-band optical pre-emphasis limiter, a patent-pending overshoot-compensated, low-distortion low pass filter, and new processing algorithms that make the Model 2020 MkIII sound even louder and cleaner than its predecessors as well as any other dynamics processor on the market. "All modern low-pass filter designs include some form of overshoot compensation that provides varying degrees of effectiveness and cleanliness," comments Marvin Caesar, Aphex President. "Our new filter is extremely effective in eliminating the overshoots, keeping the reject-band pristine, and eliminating audible artifacts. Because of the effectiveness of this new design, the processing can be run even more aggressively, and still sound cleaner. In addition to the increased loudness, the new design provides even brighter and more open-sounding broadcasts." The Aphex 2020 MkIII provides average level control and an absolute peak ceiling while maintaining a natural, distortion-free sound. Because the Model 2020 processes within the analog domain, there are none of the aliasing problems generated by some digital processors. The Model 2020 MkIII can also be run in Dual-mono Mode, making it applicable for installations requiring multiple single-channel processing.
