In response to popular demand, Lexicon has introduced a stereo version of its 960L Multi-Channel Digital Effects System. The third member of the 960L family, the 960LS brings Lexicon's reverberation algorithms and the 960L's control capabilities to the stereo world.

The 960LS is the newest addition to the 960L family, joining the flagship multi-channel 960L and the digital I/O-based 960LD. It is identical to its predecessors, without multi-channel surround functions or digital I/O. However, both can be added as separate options, allowing the 960LS to be upgraded to a full 960L.

"Although surround is becoming more and more important, there are still a lot of facilities that do a vast majority of work in stereo," said Brian Zolner, Vice President of Professional Sales at Lexicon. "The 960LS offers superb functionality and reverbs to facilities that operate in the stereo world. And, it can be expanded to a full 960L, so it's guaranteed to retain its value in the face of changing environments."

The 960LS offers eight channels of balanced analog I/O that can be configured as four stereo machines at 44.1/48kHz or two stereo machines at 88.2/96kHz. It comes standard with one DSP card and one LARC2 controller, and provides support for a second DSP card that more than doubles its available processing power, as well as a second LARC2 controller, which allows shared control of a single machine. Features can be added to upgrade the 960LS to a full 960L. The AES/EBU Digital I/O Card adds eight channels of digital I/O. Coupled with a second DSP card, the 960LS can support up to eight stereo machines at 44.1/48kHz or four stereo machines at 88.2/96kHz. When multi-channel functions are enabled, it can also support up to four surround machines at 44.1/48kHz or two surround machines at 88.2/96kHz.

Software packages can be enabled to add automation, delay and 96kHz reverb algorithms, and LOGIC7 UpMix. Automation allows program loads, parameter changes, panning moves, and mutes to be recorded and played back synchronized to incoming time code. The 960LS can store up to 100 automation sessions, each of which includes independent machine settings and user registers. When multi-channel functions are enabled, the 960LS can support delay and 96kHz reverb algorithms, which are available at no charge when the unit is registered at www.lexicon.com. It can also support the LOGIC7 UpMix algorithm, which derives surround output from stereo program material.

"The 960LS is completely upgradable to a full 960L machine," Zolner noted. "With three 960L units in the family and so many hardware and software options, there's a system to meet virtually any application."
