Digital Music Doctor does a periodic rating of the most popular Digital Audio Workstation software products. Since there are so many different software solutions to choose from, I always find their table overview useful.
While this is a useful overview, one should not take their ratings completely at face value -- their methodology is highly skewed against higher-priced items, which is why ProTools and Live always perform poorly. Also, they give each factor an equal weight, which will not be true for most users. But the table overview is very useful for seeing which product is strong in which areas.
With today's feature-rich software, there is certainly something to be said in favor of the less expensive products, which have more than enough features and functionality for most home recording studios.
