Technics introduced the SX-PX663 digital piano at the Summer NAMM show. It features Natural Response Action for the feel of a grand piano and Acoustic Reflection Technology, which creates sound reflections producing warm and open mid range frequencies.

Similar to previous Technics models, the new digital piano features Natural Response Action, which replicates the key touch on a grand piano by using four zones of graduated hammers. On grand pianos, low pitch notes exhibit a heavier touch than the high pitch notes. Naturally, the touch of the keys will change from one end of the keyboard to the other due to the thickness of the strings, the presence or absence of a damper, and the size of each of the hammers.

The Technics SX-PX663 also boasts advanced amplification technology. "Our new Acoustic Reflection Technology (A.R.T.) mimics the sloping lid of a grand piano and creates sound reflections producing warm and open mid range frequencies," explains Dan Slick, Group Manager. The piano sounds available with the new model include pop grand, concert grand, Honky Tonk piano, strings, vocals and organ to name a few. Included with these versatile sounds is an assortment of 14 demo songs. To alter the effect, the pedals range from soft to sostenuto to sustain. Other standard features are the easy-to-read LCD display, six digital reverb effects ranging from mellow to bright, and compatibility with General MIDI and Standard MIDI files. Cabinets are finished in either a simulated black wood grain or an simulated cherry wood grain.

The final elements of the SX-PX663 include the storage capacity that holds approximately 4500 notes in recorded real time, with a bonus of the metronome that measures the tempo when recording various pieces. The output of the SX-PX663 uses an 80W amplifier system (40W x 2). Included accessories with this model are a music rack, the stand, and an AC cord.

The new digital piano will be available July 2003 at Technics Musical Instrument dealers across the country.
