Sabian has introduces the Chopper cymbal, Alu Bells aluminum bells, and bronze triangles.

The Chopper

The Chopper is an innovative multi-application percussion effect that delivers quick, tightly focused white noise accents and rhythms. Comprised of three bronze discs—two of which are cut into propeller-like shapes—riveted loosely together, the Chopper is a totally new playing experience for drummers and percussionist. When played, the three discs agitate each other and produce the uniquely raw sound that proved so popular on recent Sabian Vault Tour dates, according to Wayne Blanchard, Sabian's senior marketing manager.

"The Chopper looks simple, but this is a very complex instrument designed to play accents and rhythms with equal effect," continued Blanchard. "It does this through a combination of etched surfaces and a special die-cut design that lets the three discs vibrate and agitate together; creating the short burst of white noise that makes the Chopper so special."

Already the choice of Mike Portnoy, Will Calhoun, and Rodney Howard, the Chopper fits comfortably on stands in any drum or percussion set-up. A Chopper can also add a distinctly different flavor when used in place of an X-hat, or laid on a snare drum to create a funky techno-type slap. The Chopper, available in 8-, 10- and 12-inch sizes, is quality protected by the One-Year Sabian Warranty.

Alu Bells

Available in 7- and 9-inch sizes, the 'Alu Bell' features a dome shape and narrow striking edge. According to Sabian cymbal specialist David Williams, not only does aluminum create a clear and musical bell-like response, it is very light in weight, which contributes to its ability to produce long, sustaining notes.

"'Alu Bells' were a consistent best seller on the Sabian Vault Tours," continued Williams. "When some of our major players heard them there was no stopping the concept. Everyone, whether playing latin, jazz, or hard rock, was quick to see the potential and the requests began to roll in. That demand prompted this introduction."

Because every 'Alu Bell' is individually created using traditional sand casting methods, each piece has a rough surface. According to Williams, "Aluminum Bells are comparatively thick and have an unfinished look, but their tone is very sweet and musical, with great sustain." They are also quality protected by the Sabian One-Year Warranty.

Bronze Triangles

Sabian has introduced a selection of high-quality triangles crafted from its pure uni-rolled bronze. The new triangles are already being played by leading percussionists around the world, according to Bruce Parry, Sabian's European band & orchestral specialist.

"Quality craftsmanship, bright sound, ease of control, plus competitive price points make Sabian B8 bronze triangles perfect for all musical and educational settings," said Parry. "B8 uni-rolled bronze is renowned for its bright, tonally focused sounds and that effectiveness is what makes these triangles so special."

The two ranges, B8 and hand hammered B8, are crafted from pure B8 bronze and consist of four sizes; 4-, 6-, 8- and 10-inch. Non-hammered models have a pure, focused sound, while the hand hammered range produces musically complex overtones for a richer sound.

Commented Nicholas Ormrod, percussionist with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London: "I have played Sabian triangles in our varied repertoire of ballet and opera, and my percussion colleagues have commented on their perfect combination of cutting power and musical tone. Even one of our cellists said, 'That triangle is marvelous! The complexity of the sound means that it does not interfere with the sounds we are making'."
