The example below is a little bit more outside. The first measure is almost like an F Lydian kind of thing with F,G,A,B. Using a simple 5-note motif in mms 3-5, he keeps moving it down by a full step each measure, until the Bb Minor ascending run climaxes in measure 6. In mms 7-9, note the use of the Bb blues scale (over a C progression!), but it totally fits. In order to bring the line back "inside", he returns to the C Blues scale in measure 10 to let us know that the tune really is in C.
