The same thing holds true for scales. A great example of this are any of the diminished scales. Here is a Dimished half-whole scale.

This scale crawls up the neck in a very angular way. Kinda like a spider! Or, maybe it's that it sounds like a spider! Or, it's probably closer to a spider is chasing me! HELP! It's a diminished scale.. You get my point.

Here is the shape of a C Half-Whole Diminished scale.
