Sennheiser Electronics Corporation will be officially introducing the ultimate in Evolution Wired Microphone line - the 900 Series- at the 117th AES Convention in San Francisco next month.

The 900 Series is comprised of seven new backline mics, plus the three previously introduced 900 Series models, the cardioid 935, super-cardioid 945 and the 903 instrumental mics. Sennheiser has now designed seven additional backline mics to augment the line - the Evolution 901, 902, 904, 905, 906, 908 and 914.

All 900 Series microphones are designed to offer transparent sound, be insensitive to handling noise, and feature excellent transient response and feedback rejection. Tight and uniform polar patterns, tighter manufacturing tolerances and gold XLR pins are common to the entire line. Targeted to professional musicians, PA rental companies and rehearsal studios, the 900 Series is optimized for all measurable parameters. "And although the new series owes it heritage to the Evolution 600/800 Series, the new capsules on the 900 Series deliver a unique voiced presence-peak, producing an "open" natural sound and improved isolation," noted Anthony Buzzeo, channel/product manager for MI. "The result is both instruments and vocals have exceptional clarity and incredible definition in the mix."

Here's a quick overview of the new mics in the Evolution 900 Series:

The Evolution 901 is an electret condenser boundary mic for kick drums and grand piano. With half-cardioid polar pattern, the 901 delivers faster transient response, does not require a stand, and comes with a non-skid pad and slots for permanent mounting. The 901 is fully compatible with the new Sennheiser intelligent MZA900P in-line pre-amp with dual-color LEDs to report status of cable and phantom power. (MSRP: $299)

For kick drums, bass guitar amps, tuba and brass instruments, the dynamic, cardioid Evolution 902 offers higher resonant frequency (65Hz), a shock-mounted capsule with integrated clip mouth, and delivers more punch and tighter response of the lowest bass signals. (MSRP: $249)

The dynamic cardioid Evolution 904 drum instrument mic features a high mass metal chassis for greater stability with powerful, punchy sound characteristics suitable for a variety of musical styles. (MSRP: $249)

Based on the Evolution 903, the updated circuitry of the Evolution 905 snare drum mic delivers warm presence and "spank." Smaller than its predecessor, the 905 comes with integrated stand adapter for optimal placement. (MSRP: $199)

The versatile Evolution 906 boasts a switchable presence filter @4.2kHz with three different sound characteristics - bright, in-between and warm. Its flat shape is good for guitar amps, percussion and horns. In this instance, the 906 replaces the Evolution 609, however the Evolution 609 Silver remains in the line. (MSRP: $369)

The Evolution 908 is a triple variant electret condenser, super-cardioid, gooseneck mic for brass and percussion. Available as the E909B wired with MZA900P in-line pre-amp (MSRP: $379), or the 908ew wireless with 3.5mm ew connector (MSRP: $249), or the E908D wired with special MZH908D clamp and MZA900P in-line pre amp. (MSRP: $299)

Capping off the line is the Evolution 914, a modular electret, condenser mic for cymbals, hi-hats, pianos, acoustic instruments, choirs and orchestras. With three position bass roll-off/cut-off and sensitivity switch, the 914 is capable of handling high SPLs.. (MSRP: $499)
