Sennheiser Debuts New EM 3732 Twin Receiver At AES

Aug 29, 2007

Sennheiser is introducing the new EM 3732 twin receiver with 90MHz switching bandwidth at the 123rd AES Convention in New York. The new flagship of Sennheiser's 3000 Series, the EM 3732 offers automatic scanning functionality, choice of five frequency ranges, transmitter synchronization via infrared interface, flexible analogue and digital connection options and exemplary audio quality.

The EM 3732 receiver features six user-selectable fixed frequency banks and one user bank with up to sixty channels that can be programmed in increments of 5kHz. The EM 3732 automatically searches for free frequencies within a frequency bank.

An integrated antenna splitter allows up to eight EM 3732 twin receivers to easily be daisy-chained. The EM 3732 is ideal for large multi-channel applications, not just because of its wide switching bandwidth and tunable channels, but also because of its infrared interface, which very quickly and easily programs SKM 5200, SK 5212 and SKP 3000 transmitters with the receiver data via a Hot Key.

The receiver's front panel layout is clearly laid out and its LED display offers particularly high contrast and intensity. The interface guides users through intuitive operating menus, featuring easily remembered icons, which are navigated using a jog dial. Frequently used menu items can be accessed directly via convenient Hot Key shortcuts. Both receivers can be monitored via headphones individually or simultaneously.

The receiver system can be remote-controlled and monitored using the provided Wireless Systems Manager software. The PC is simply connected to the Ethernet socket of the EM 3732.

Output level can be set in increments of 1dB and is available at a transformer-balanced XLR-3 analogue output as well as an AES3/EBU audio output for direct connection with digital mixing consoles. Digital synchronization of the 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz or 96kHz/24-bit sample rate can be generated internally or accepted from the digital audio mixer via a BNC connector. The high level of audio quality is further maintained through the use of a DSP-based HiDyn plus expander rather than analog circuitry.

A range of convenient antenna accessories is available for the EM 3732 twin receiver. The rugged AB 3700 broadband antenna amplifier is designed for a frequency range of 470-866MHz and amplifies the received signal by 5 to 15dB. The antenna booster is fitted with four multi-color LEDs that indicate amplification in 5dB increments, permitting the sound engineer or RF engineer to read the respective setting even from a distance. Unlike conventional antenna amplifiers, the AB 3700 will open a second, low-attenuation (-6dB) signal path in case of power cuts. Further, two active receiver antennas are available: the directional AD 3700 and the omni-directional A 3700.

The EM 3732 is complemented by two variations: the EM 3731 single receiver and the EM 3732 COM twin receiver, a special command version with a second XLR-3 audio output for talk-back purposes. All models will be available late fall 2007.
