Sony DMX-R100 Enhancements Debut at Summer NAMM

Jul 23, 2002

Sony Electronics outlined product enhancements and improved financing terms for qualified customers for one of its most successful audio products, the DMX-R100 digital mixer.

"The DMX-R100 digital mixer has proven itself as a workhorse in a variety of applications' from music production to broadcast and live events," said Terry Murphy, marketing manager for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Systems Division. "At the National Association of Broadcasters convention held in April 2002, Sony announced it had sold more than 1500 DMX-R100 digital mixers worldwide' making it one of the most popular digital mixers on the market."

Enhanced Storage Capability

Responding to customer demand. Sony introduced the new DMSK-R100AE automation editor software providing users an almost unlimited amount of title and snapshot data storage capability for the digital mixer. Offline operations such as cut and paste of channel setup and automation data are now possible.

"Mix engineers now are no longer hampered by a lack of mix storage," Murphy added. "Additionally, the offline software allows an engineer to prepare for a session on a laptop PC while traveling to a job."

MADI Interface provides expanded digital I/O

Improving the DMX-R100 digital mixer capability, Sony is expanding the maximum digital I/O to 72 from 32 with the introduction of the DMBK-R109 MADI interface.

"The added I/O allows for easier digital interface to many popular audio work stations," added Murphy. "While in a live application, large numbers of analog I/O's can be connected via fiber optic cable."

One of the benefits of the new MADI board in larger applications is the capability of cascading two digital mixers together. "This could allow a system to monitor a 48-track recording with 48-microphones using 16 channels of reverb return, all in 5.1 audio," Murphy commented.

New 1/O System Previewed at Summer NAMM

Sony demonstrated a new remote I/O system consisting of a MADI based I/O rack and a new remote controlled microphone preamp system. The 1/O rack supports all the existing analog and digital 1/O option cards along with the new mic preamp. There is a new control panel that can be utilized to remotely control the gain of the preamp.

"The I/O rack can be located locally or 100 yards away with the use of fiber optic cable," Murphy said. "The 1/O in the rack can even be shared between two separate mixers in different control rooms."

New Pricing, Financing and Support Packages for the DMX-R100

Effective immediately, Sony will offer new pricing and financing opportunities for qualified customers. Details of the new programs are available through authorized resellers and Sony's direct sales force.

Enhanced Service Contracts

Sony extended service program for the DMX-R100 digital mixer provides Sony's customer service beyond the standard one-year limited warrantee. The new service program includes access to Sony's repair coverage, product on-site support engineering and repair coverage.
