Squier Teams With Shepard Fairey For Obey Instruments

Jan 21, 2006

Squier® is proud to announce that it has teamed up with renowned graphic artist, Shepard Fairey, to create a unique run of graphic instruments. Best known for subtle yet obscure images and giant urban murals, the Obey campaign has become a cult phenomenon in cities around the world, and at this winter's NAMM show in Anaheim, the famous artwork can be found on Squier Stratocaster® and Telecaster® guitars.

As Fairey himself says, "The Obey campaign can be explained as an experiment in Phenomenology. The first aim of Phenomenology is to reawaken a sense of wonder about one's environment. The Obey campaign attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question both the campaign and their relationship with their surroundings. Because people are not used to seeing advertisements or propaganda for which the motive is not obvious, frequent and novel encounters with Obey propaganda provoke thought and possible frustration, nevertheless revitalizing the viewer's perception and attention to detail."

There are four models available with three different graphic schemes, including the Squier® OBEY Graphic Stratocaster® HSS "Dissent", the Squier Telecaster® HS "Propaganda", and a "Collage" graphic that is available on either Stratocaster or Telecaster guitars.

Each model features Duncan® Designed humbucking and single coil pickups, special "Rustic & Worn" hardware, knurled control knobs, die-cast machine heads, non-pickguard body, volume and tone controls and unique artwork over Black finish.

Available for the first time at Fender's booth at this winter's NAMM show, each Squier Obey model has a US MSRP of $415.99.
