Vic Firth History

Vic Firth is one of the world's oldest drum stick manufacturing companies. The company was founded by Everett "Vic" Firth, who was the timpanist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 50 years. Vic Firth also attended the prestigious New England Conservatory before joining the BSO.

Besides drumsticks, Vic Firth also makes a variety of mallets (timpani mallets, marimba mallets, orchestral percussion mallets, Bass Drum Mallets, etc.) as well as salt and pepper shakers and rolling pins. The designs for the sticks and mallets are inspired by Mr. Vic's experience in the business, colleagues and percussion mates, and noted players in the industry. Drummers endorsing the companies sticks include Vinnie Paul (Pantera/Damageplan), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath), Matt Brann (Avril Lavigne), Scott Travis (Judas Priest), Tomas Haake (Meshuggah), Terry Bozzio, Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Buddy Rich, Jeff Tortora (Blue Man Group), Steve Gadd (Eric Clapton), Billy Cobham, Dave Weckl, Roger Taylor (Queen), Shelia E., Tony Royster Jr, Akira Jimbo and Danny Carey (Tool, Pigmy Love Circus).

Vic Firth offers the basic sizes of sticks; 7A, 5A, 5B, 2B and Rock. However, they also offer more creative sizes made for the in-between people, such as: 8D L=16" D=.540"; X5A L=16.5" D=.565"; 55A L=16" D=.580"; X5B L=16.5" D=.595"; METAL L=17" D=.635"

All the sizes are also available in nylon tips. There are also many more to choose from. Vic Firth also manufactures practice pads, silence mutes, stick bags and sticks with your name in them.
