Singer-songwriter-producer Wendy Waldman is joining Taylor Guitars' workshop program, which presents recording artists in free, interactive guitar clinics at Taylor dealerships around the States and overseas. Waldman, whose extensive writing credits include Vanessa Williams' Grammy-winning song, "Save the Best for Last," will focus on the use of the acoustic guitar as a songwriting tool.

At age 22, Waldman was the youngest member of the early-'70s "Brain Trust" at Warner Brothers Records, which included Randy Newman, Captain Beefheart, Van Dyke Parks, Ry Cooder, and Maria Muldaur. Her first major success came in 1973, when Muldaur recorded two of her songs, "Vaudeville Man" and "Mad, Mad Me." Since then, Waldman has written or co-written more than 130 songs for such artists as Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Kim Carnes, Shenandoah, Riders in the Sky, Jesse Colin Young, Crystal Gale, and Bette Midler.

Waldman also is a founding member of the critically acclaimed group, Bryndle, whose other members are credit-heavy, L.A.-music-scene stalwarts Karla Bonoff, Kenny Edwards, and Andrew Gold. Bryndle has recorded two albums, the latest being 2002's House of Silence. Waldman also has recorded nine albums under her own name, including Love is the Only Goal, an 18-cut "greatest hits" compilation. Years ago, Waldman added "pioneering record producer" to her lengthy list of credits when she became the first prolific woman producer of country music in the male-dominated Nashville scene. In addition to helming Suzy Bogguss' award-winning debut, Waldman produced The Forester Sisters, Jonathan Edwards, Matraca Berg, and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. She since has returned to her native Southern California.

"Wendy definitely adds another layer of diversity to our workshop program," says the Taylor PR Department's Buzz Marcus, who will book Waldman's workshops. "She's a terrific songwriter and a great person, and we're especially pleased to have Wendy as our first female Taylor clinician. We expect quite an enthusiastic response to her workshops."
