Whitney Houston Biography
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (born on August 9, 1963) is an American pop and R&B singer and occasional actress. Houston has also been a film producer, songwriter and fashion model. Whitney goes down in history for having the best voice ever according to VH1's Best Vocalist Ever list. She is also known to be one of the biggest selling female artist ever.
Houston's debut album was released in 1985 to considerable critical and commercial international success, and within the next three years she released a record of seven consecutive number-one hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, a record that still has been unbroken. She was one of a handful of African-American artists who received heavy-rotation on MTV during the network's early years in the 1980s.
Houston continued her success in the 1990s with the release of several films and their corresponding soundtrack albums, the most popular of which was The Bodyguard (1992), which produced her signature song "I Will Always Love You" (a cover of Dolly Parton). Houston is one of the highest selling artists in music history, having sold over 120 million albums and 50 million singles.
She performed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in February 2006, in Torino, Italy. Houston, escorted by Clive Davis, also attended the 15th annual Society of Singers ELLA Awards in Beverly Hills, California on September 12, 2006 which was Honouring Johnny Mathis.
Whitney Houston arrived at the 17th annual Carousel Ball of Hope on October 28, 2006 where she stole the spotlight to a sea of flickering cameras. American Idol alumni Katherine McPhee, who performed at the event, changed the song she had planned to sing, instead opting to sing a Houston song.
Songs have already been completed for the upcoming album, although Houston may go back into the studio to record additional material. The comeback album is said to have production/collaborations with Missy Elliott, DJ Premier, Wyclef Jean, Lil Jon, and Alicia Keys among others.
The album is rumored for a Spring/early Summer 2007 release date.
