Appropriate for Lent of Holy Week, suggested corresponding lectionary readings include Psalm 131, Isaiah 53: 1-12, John 18: 1-40 & 19:1-42, and Hebrews 4:14-16 & 5: 7-9. One basic homiletical theme is the suffering and death of Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice is for the salvation of humankind.
