J. S. Bach completed the first volume of "The Well-Tempered Clavier" around 1722 and the second volume some 20 years later. Each of these masterpieces consists of 24 preludes and 24 fugues, in all major and minor keys. For Volume I, Baroque scholar and editor Willard A. Palmer's exhaustive research spanned more than 10 years, closely examining the most important original manuscripts and sources. Baroque authority Judith Schneider, who worked closely with Dr. Palmer on all of his Bach editions, continued his tradition of excellence with Volume II. Maria Sofianska, international chamber music artist, contributed expert fingering in Volume II. Both volumes contain extensive introductions that discuss fugal construction, articulation, Baroque ornamentation and other aspects of keyboard performance in the Baroque era. Light gray print distinguishes editorial additions from Bach's original notation in black print.
