I bought this guitar for my 6-year-old kid, ignoring the suggestions that I get him something smaller first. Sure enough, he doesn't play it much because he says it's too heavy. But guess who does play it? A lot! I have a full sized Strat but this thing is a great break! First, the tone is pure Fender Strat-no mistaking that tone. It's no toy, either. It's made just like the full sized models and sounds like them too, with decent sustain and growl. Tuned to E like a full size, the strings are seriously bendy...a little too bendy. I tune it to G and it feels right. Same hardware and quality of build as any Squier, which is to say almost indistinguishable from an American-made Strat. Get one with no reservations. Whoever you buy it for will love it.
3/4-size guitar, suitable for age 6-11
The 3/4-size Squier® "Mini" is the ideal first guitar for kids, and it's also a great travel guitar for players of all ages!
Although it's undersized, the Squier® Mini is a real guitar, with features that are based on those of the classic Fender® guitar models. Three single-coil pickups, a fixed, non-tremolo hardtail bridge and five-way switching make the Mini sound as cool as it looks!
