The Art of Walking Bass

You will need to be at least a beginner level bass player before you start this book. It's format includes booth music notatioon and tab beneath. The accompanying CD. The thing I particularly liked about this book was the manner in which the subject is taught. Analyze the bass line, understand how it works, practice on your own, then play with CD. That's where most books and teachers stop. Ed goes on to get you to write your own few lines USING YOUR EAR. Then by turning the CD'to utilise the right channel [and cutting out th bass example] you play YOUR own lick along with the CD's rhythm section from the right channel . Don't just learn walking bass, create your own! Isn't that the way it should be? This book is a nice one to own.

"Walking bass lines are the building blocks, or foundation, upon which a song is laid. The term "wakling" describes the feeling or motion, of the bass line. Much like physical walking (one step after another), the continuous flow of quarter notes creates a feeling of forward momentum." The book shows you (the reader) a in depth guide through chord progressions, scales, intervals, along with basic song structure, and gives you a great since of notes on the fretboard. It includes a cd which takes you through a serious of almost 30 lessons, that all tend to bar and end at about 24-32 measures. It does include tab for you readers who cannot read music. This book is well suited for beginners, or even advanced players who dont feel strong when it comes to the jazzy/blues feel. This book is very well detailed and structured lessons that very in keys, and progressions, it covers harmonic progressions. This book helped me in various ways from improb., all the way to construcing real songs. I have owned the book now for two years and i still tend to gaze through it when i feel im missing somthing, it makes a great reference. Only note i would give the reader is it might help to take a theory class or two, just to help understand the correct implications of the material, i have been taking theory classes for a while now and yeah i just feel that will help you alot more... Great Book... cant deny the MI (musicians institute).
