101 Bass Tips

Gary Willis is not only an excellent musician but a very intelligent one. He has put together a book (with CD) which will save you years of having to work out some of this stuff! There are so many books out there but this truly stands out for both in its simplicity and effectiveness, and with supporting notation and diagrams. Tops stuff Gary! Regards Maj

Offers a lot of very good tips that aren't available in other texts. great book by a great bass player!

This book is jammed full of valuable information that just about everyone can use and value. The Book takes knowledge of all skill levels and makes it practical in all aspects of bass playing. The Book has raised my skill level and theory knowledge immensely , and I look back to it all the time. The Book comes with a 64 track CD that demonstrates everything that Gary Willis was trying to explain. The Book could use a little more organization, like perhaps all the topics on Practicing, Soloing, and such could have been clustered together in general categories to make referencing the book easier. My Favorite part of the book was Gary Willis's insight on adjusting your bass so tyhat you get the sound out of it that I wanted. He could have explained how to form a solo and other things a little more coherently. This book is a must read to bass players of all skill levels

Like having a mate who's been playing for decades and know everything and wants 2 share it with you. Is simply amazing....

This is probably one of the best bass books I've ever read. Not only does it include fundamental tips on playing and soloing but covers more obscure tips such as lifting your bass cabinets off the stage to get rid of boominess and making sure your bass rig is in phase with the PA speakers. This book is definitely worth the cover price.

This is a great read and a great reference book cover most every aspect of the bass . . . maintenance, EQ, strings, theory, soloing (hint: DON'T use the root), even how to make your own strap. There are plenty of tips for fretless players as well. It's a random collection of helpful hints from a fellow who doesn't mind sharing what he knows . . . which is a lot.

The CD tracks cover many aspects of soloing, rhythm, and tone, and include backing tracks so you can practice the techniques over a groove.

My favorite tip is how to get more sound out of your E and B strings WITHOUT changing to a 35" scale bass . . . run the string through a PC board spacer (a small metal cylinder) at the end of the bridge to extend the length of the string.

These tips will be useful for newbies ("Record your practicing") and the well-experienced ("Diminished Chord Improv") alike.

Truly an excellent reference!
