Latin Bass

This is a "must have" for every bass player who either teaches bass, or enjoys Latin music. It describes how to play Afro-Cuban and Brazilian styles such as Mambo, Cha Cha, bolero, nanigo, songo, merengue, samba, bossa nova, the 3/4 bossa nova, baiao, partid alto, I mean how much more do you need! For evry style there is a brief introduction, an example or 2 of the basic groove,and a play along song on the CD -both with and without bass parts. There is also a list of artists for recommended listening. This book is fast becoming a favourite with me, and I am finding that I'm "enhancing" many of my old favourite standards by backing them with a bossa nova for example. Great buy.

I really espected much more from this book since It's part of the Musicians Institute Privete lessons. All major styles of latin music are covered, but quite poorly. You get just two patterns for each style, and a 2 min track which uses these patterns, without variations. If you espect to learn the latin "A. Jackson like" styile, forget this book.
