Slap Bass Essentials

As a rock bass player, I wanted to bring something different to the band I play in. I got intrested in "Slap Bass" by listening to one of my favorite bands, "The Red Hot Chili Peppers". I've always loved the style, but never really tried it. Back in Augest, my friend gave me a gift certificate to a local music store. I bought this book/Cd, and it has definatley grown me into a better bassist. They have it all tabbed out for you in the book, and with the Cd, you can play it over and over till you master that pattern. It's pretty challenging, but simple enough that if you practice it enough you'll eventually get it.

This is an instructional book on percussive (a.k.a. slap) bass techniques. The techniques included are thumb slap, index finger pop, muted slap, muted pop, left hand slap, palm mute, thumb pop, index and middle finger slap. I think it has made me a slightly better player. I refer to it when i need a new slap riff to play, or an excersize to improve my slapping. This is for any skill level who can fret notes and who is interested in learning to slap. it also is fine for any style of music. This book doesnt give an incredibly detailed description of the techniques, the description is basic, and the book consists of excersizes for each individual technique, each technique combined with other techniques, and riffs that use each individual technique, and combinations of techniques. This book comes with a cd with each riff and some other stuff on it.
