Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar

If you're serious about reaching your full potential as a guitarist, this is definitely the the book for you. It's taken me four months to get to page 13 out of 78, but already I've seen a HUGE difference in my playing abilities.

Get this book! There's no way i can describe the effectiveness of this book with words.

If you take his advice and focus on areas each exercise is meant for. You'll clean up your fingering and increase you speed by the end of the first week. Don't stop there though, I am personally amazed at the difference this book has made in my technical form (Mechanical ability, whatever).

The Holy Grail to developing great technique. This is a great resource to help get your fingers flying! The book is broken down into three components: mechanics, rhythm, and creativity. It covers all the mechanical bases: finger independence,trills,hammer on/pull offs, rolling to adjacent strings, string skipping, sweep picking, alternate picking, etc. The mechanics portion will show you left and right hand techniques, how to practice, and build speed. The rhythm section will introduce you various time signatures and how to improve your rhythmic abilities. The creativity section offers some helpful suggestions on bridging the gap and bringing it all together into your own unique style and making it your creation. The techniques in this book really work! If you take your time and accurately learn the licks at a slower speed, then and only then, start pushing the tempo up at regular intervals, you will reap the rewards. I can't recommend this book enough. Thank you Mr. Stetina for a wonderful and powerfully enlightning book.

This book is brilliant. It containes excersises desgined to strenghten your left hand, increase your picking ability, overall make you a faster player. One flaw with this book is that it has a slightly cold and academic sort of vibe. But it's excellent!

If you desire to shred, this book well get going real fast. This book has really made me focused A LOT on what i am doing when i practice. Seriously if you want to improve your abilities, this book well get you going real fast in the right direction.

This is a great book. Troy Stetina makes learning lead guitar easy (sort of). Lead guitar can be a very frustrating thing to learn on guitar, but i'm getting the hang of it with this new book i got just yesterday. I'm already seeing results! This book mainly focuses on speed, duh, but it still is a pretty good instructional lead guitar book overall. I would reccommend this book to metal/rock guitarists.

This is the best book/cd I've seen to help you increase your speed. It's filled with exercises to develop both your right and left hand techniques. I would highly recommended it for intermediate or advanced players.

This is a must know book for every serious guitarplayer out there. Alltough the books consept is more suited for the "metallic" playing style, practising methods tought in this book apply to everykind of playing style, from acoustic cottonfield blues to meanest and fastest metalshredding! Book tought me to play things that I never dreamed even possible!

The book is suitable for the intermediate player who wants to further improve his playing abilities and break the speed barrier. This is what the book is designed for, and it is successful. The exercises are fun to play and challenging at the same time, techniques are described in easy to understand language. The only thing this book is missing is a theory/scales part. Nevertheless, if you want a book from which you can learn from and play with even years after you've purchased it, this is your #1 choice.

This is a fantasic book to get you on your way, it shoots throught the basic stuff you should already know, and shows you many techniques that are useful for all styles of music not just metal, a must have book if you want to play lead.

This is an instructional book that can be used as a compendium of guitar exercises from which you choose those most relevant to the area of playing that you are working on. It is not a scales book (though there are some scales in it), but rather helps you aquire or improve the skills needed to play lead guitar. It is mainly aimed at the shred fraternity (alternate, economy picking and legato) but really the exercises are so comprehensive you could use it regardless of the style of music you play.

Instruction book + CD focussing on correct technique and development.

This book is aimed at lifting all levels of guitar players. Consists of exercises for both hands, covers various techniques and is well written.

Every time I sit down for a serious practice session I open up this book. I'm determined to improve my playing, accuracy and speed. As you refer to the numerous resources found in books, the internet and guitar tutors you'll come across some exercises that will really help push the boundaries of your playing. However, if you want to save time and money, just get this book. The exercises are well thought out and progressive as you move from one chapter to the next.

I have to say that even though this book is in the Metal section. What ever music you enjoy the most, your playing will most certainly benefit from the insight this book offers.

For myself, the first time I started to go through this book I noticed a difference by the time I reached the third page!!! No exageration. So with more time and the further I reach in the book. Well let's say the prospects are exciting.

I've only had this book about two weeks but I can already see major a differance in my lead playing. My alternant picking is twice is good as it was. My sweeps are cleaner and my left hand dexterity has increased dramatically.

This book is very instructional and has many tabbed transcriptions to go by. The exercises in the book can be played at any speed and are designed to build speed. So you can work at your own pace, and, if you push yourself, you will improve. It is really geared toward metal lead guitar. A CD is included in the package. It contains a slow and a fast version of almost every exercise in the book. The CD is really helpful to help you hear what you are supposed to be playing. I really liked that you could start at your own pace and build speed as fast as you wanted. I also enjoyed the classical tabs available in the book. There is a transcription of "Flight of the Bumblebee" and "Caprice in D Major".

Instructional book with wonderful explanation of mechanics of achieving speed. You will grow with the exercises. Practise slowly till you get the tones right and then set your metronome higher. Do not buy just the book...listen with the cd...you will know what I mean. Also recommended is Speed picking by Rowan Robertson..video also by Hal Leonard.
