Tube 12ax7 pre and a solid state power. I always run XLR to the PA and always have good reviews of my bass sound. All the toys that make this the best stero power/pre amp Ive ever owned! 1200 watts into 4 ohms bridged, I run stero 400wts a side,into 2 2x10 Eden cabs that are the older 250 watters that,for stage volume,are loud enough for any venue.Just did a gig this weekend with 2 guitarists armed with Marshalls,keys plus the drummer and lead vocals. Sound: I have a 69 Fender J bass and a MM Sterling and they both sing like never before,I slap and do alot of two handed stuff that really comes right thru. I play in 3 different bands that cover a spectrum from Jazz,R-n-B,dance to country!! This amp shines in all formats. I have a ART floor unit and a Berhinger compresser that I used to run with my other bass rigs when I was still hunting for that sound,but I dont use them any more! The sound I get running the Eden clean totally kills my previous attempts at sonic quality. If you push the gain past 12 oclock you are going to find the sweetest cleanist growl you have ever had! And if you like totally clean LOUD sound that will shake most houses to the ground you will LOVE this amp!! Please invest in a set of cabs that are up to the task. Ive owned an Ampeg SVT,Carvin,Peavey Pro,Fender. . . All the amps most guys who are hunting THAT SOUND have owned and let me tell you my search is OVER!!!

Overall, this amp is great. The guitar player in my band Muzzleloader couldn't believe the sound difference between the Eden and the SWR.

Sound: I use this with a Musicman Stingray V, Ibanez SDGR 5-string, and a Steinberger CR4M upright, playing all styles of music. This amp sounds great!! To me, it sounds light years better than my previous SWR 400. The tone is much more rich throughout the frequency spectrum. 800 watts is definetly the way to go. The low end is supported much better. It sounds deeper.

Durability: I have had it repaired twice already. I am a little bummed about that. It seems that they have had some bad resistors or tranistors in some of their boards. I am told this isn't the usual case however.

The tone is great. The power is great. The size is great but the reliability is the question.

Features: 3 band eq, bass, treble, enhance, tube pre-amp. I does put out all of 800 watts.

Sound: The sound if very warm and smooth with the built in compression. I play a Warwick Thumb 5 and a Fender Jazz and the two distinct tones are very clear. I go from finger style funk and slap to heavy rock with the low B and it fits great.

Durability: The only reason for an average review is that I never know if its going to cut out and just stop working. I've had it replaced once and it still over heats and cuts all sound. I've recently placed a small clip on fan onto the back of the SKB case and that has helped but you never know.

Features: This is a great amp.

Sound: I play a lot of different styles with this amp. I find it has a warm mid range puch and I usually just run it flat.

Durability: This and my other Eden I use have had some reliability issues.
