STRINGS ARE FUN is the second of a series of books for beginning string orchestra players by Albert Stoutamire and Kenneth Henderson. The first is STRINGING ALONG. Both books are made up of program pieces which are easy to play and are full-sounding, harmonized arrangements. Both can be used throughout the first year of string instrument instruction. In STRINGING ARE FUN as in STRINGING ALONG, the notes required to play each arrangement are given at the top of each piece. Learning just a few notes and rhythms enables a class to start playing from the book. Additional notes and rhythms are gradually encountered as the class progresses through the book. Both books begin with all players bowing together. Parts gradually develop some independence as progress is made through the books, but rhythms and bowings are always easy. String orchestra music is a special source of genuine pleasure. Part of the enjoyment of playing in an orchestra is the experience of performing all styles of music including the classics, country, and rock. Beginning students can play these and other styles with STRINGING ALONG and STRINGS ARE FUN. A third book, only slightly more advanced, is BOW, PICK, 'N' ROCK by the same writers and publisher. Published for piano-conductor, 1st violin, 2nd violin, viola, cello, and bass.
