Hopson effectively combines two hymntunes to create this stirring setting, taken from his larger work, Tenebrae: A Service of Darkness. The rich fulln ess of Rockingham moves into a stark setting of Hamburg for the third verse of the text, scored for women's voices intertwined with "O Sacred Head Now Wounded" in a haunting oboe solo. For SATB Choir, Congregation and organ w ith optional oboe and strings, this highly charged work will touch the hear ts of all as they experience Holy Week. Optional oboe and congregational p arts are included within the choral score.
